Early spring in the Kruger, with a herd of Burchell's zebra ( Equus burchelli ) grazing in the foreground with two male giraffe ( Giraffa camelopardalis ) browsing in the background. Zebra are sexed by a thick ( male) or fine ( female ) black stripe under the tail and between the rump. Giraffe can also be sexed by the thick ( male ) or delicate ( female ) "horns" which are not true horns but are actually bony and form part of the skull.
