The Steenbuck ( Raphicerus campestris ) leads a solitary life, except at mating time and when a female has a lamb. Only the males have horns but both defend the territory against trespassers. When defecating or urinating, they clear a spot which is covered afterwards, utilising the front hooves. They are selective feeders that both graze and browse.
