Female giraffe ( Giraffa camelopardalis ) give birth while standing up, which breaks the umbilical cord. The calf weighs around 100kg and is around 1,5m tall at birth. Giraffes are seldom vocal, but do bellow, grunt or snort when alarmed and even moo when seperated from the herd.
