Climate
The climate is subtropical. The rainy season starts around October and lasts to around March, followed by a period of very little or no rainfall. Around 80% of the precipitation occurs in the form of quick thunder showers and is very erratic. Rainfall in the Kruger ranges from around 210mm to 760mm per annum. The average daily maximum temperatures range from 30°C in January ( Summer ) to 23°C in July ( Winter ). The average daily minimum temperatures ( at night) are around 18°C in January to 8°C in July. Frost occurs extremely rarely during the winter.
Fauna
Mammals : 147 species
Birds : around 507 species
Reptiles : around 114 different species; consisting of 58 lizard species, 50 snake species, 5 tortoise and terrapin species and a single crocodile species.
Amphibians : around 33 species of frogs and toads.
Fishes : around 50 species of fish.
Flora
The Kruger has an incredible diversity of Flora. There are over 300 different tree species. As flora is dependent on many factors, such as rainfall and soil type etcetera, we should rather review the ecozones, of which there are around 16 in the Kruger. " Tree spotting " has gained popularity amongst the regular tourists to the Kruger.
