The colourful and aerobatic Whitefronted Bee-eaters ( Merops bullockoides ) launch themselves from perches to catch insects, especially butterflies, in the air or on the surface of water. When breeding, they form colonies with nests of inclined burrows ( up to 1m long ) in riverbanks.
