A thirsty giraffe ( Giraffa camelopardalis ) preparing to drink from a pool in the rock strewn section of the Matjulu River. Normally danger lurks, especially in the form of a pride of lions, at waterholes. The uneven and rocky terrain will also be to the disadvantage of this giraffe if there were any lion about, as the main defense of the giraffe is to outrun the lions, although it has a powerful kick that can kill an unwary lion!
